From the Barber’s Chair: In Search of the Best Taco

Besides being a barber, my other great passion is great food. Lately, I have been on a search for the best Tacos. I have gone to a lot of restaurants all over New Jersey. However , I keep coming back to the Collingwood Auction on the border of Wall, Howell and Farmingdale, NJ.

Inside, they have a small Mexican restaurant run by Erika and her husband. They are only open on Friday, Saturday and Sunday and even on those days they are not open late. However, I have not found any better tocos and salsa.

I usually order the Al Pastor tacos. However these do not have the sweet pineapple taste that is common with Al Pastor tacos. I actually like this better. The meat is well marinated and cooked on a simple flat top grill. The toppings are the usual toppings. But two things stand out:

The toco shells are lightly fried with oil. For me this makes all of the difference. The shell does not have that raw taste

2. They have the best Salsa Verde. They mix avocado into the homemade sauce which gives it a creamier texture

This place is not upscale. However, the food is great! Where is your favorite toco place?
