When was your last haircut? If you live in NJ it was probably back in March. If you skipped your last hair cut time, it could have been in February or even earlier. So now you have long hair.
Maybe you always wanted long hair. But, how should you have it trimmed when the barbershops open again. Should you even go to a barbershop or should you find a salon where they are better equipped to handle long hair?
Most shops, in New Jersey, should be open in another month. At my salon, I work with all hair lengths. I do everything from scissor cuts to fades on all hair types. I am a licensed barber who has spent his career working on men and women. I do haircuts and color. 90% of my customers are men.
What do I tell the stylist?
Since your hair grew out from a shorter length, it will need some shaping. Some pieces are probably long and others are shorter depending on length of your sides and top before the quarantine. In addition, you have to decide whether you want to stay at your current length or whether you want to grow your hair longer. In either case, your hair will need to be shaped.
For most men, the following should work:
A blunt cut
Long layers
A minimal face frame (optimal)
The blunt cut is for the perimeter. I sets the length for your hair. You, will have to decide if you want some or all of your ears covered.
The layers help to give your hair movement, so that it does not lay flat. If the blunt cut is for the perimeter, then the layers are for the interior. The layers will give you a blended look with texture.
A face frame is a slight trim of the hair near the face. The key for a man’s long haircut is moderation. The goal is to keep the cut masculine, unless the client request otherwise.
Hair Care
1. Shampoo weekly and don’t forget to use a good conditioner.
2. For styling, use something light, with a matte finish, like “Clean Cut Styling Cream” by Paul Mitchell.
